willow Season 1 review
The story of the series takes place almost 17 years after the defeat of Queen Bavmorda. The queen’s daughter, Sorsha, now rules the kingdom and has since become mother to twins Kit and Airk and guardian to Elora. Her husband, Madmartigan, goes missing, forcing a new group of unlikely heroes to unite when Sorsha’s son, Airk, is kidnapped by the Crone, a powerful witch who leads the Order of the Wyrm, a mysterious entity Maleficent.
Sorsha sends her daughter Kit, her husband Boorman’s former squire, Jade, a knight-in-training – and Kit is more than a BFF – and Prince Graydon to find Willow, her former friend and wizard to lead the quest to rescue Airk. Along the way, it is revealed that they have another person joining their party: a housekeeper named “Dove” who is in love with Airk. However, the moment the group meets Willow, her true identity is revealed: she is Elora Danan, future Empress of Tir Asleen, hidden all these years for her own safety.
Together, they must battle all kinds of strange creatures and lands to save Airk, as well as train Elora to be the most powerful magician ever, if they ever want to save the world from the Wyrm.
willow Season 1 ending explained
After literally jumping off the edge of the world, Kit and Elora finally find Airk – or did they? As expected, he has been possessed by the Crone and now wants Kit and Elora to come with him, with the promise of getting whatever their hearts desire. For Kit, that means the freedom to live the life she dreams of, having adventures with Jade and not having to be the good little princess; for Elora, that means not having the responsibility of the world on her shoulders, marrying Airk and being normal. The Crone’s tempting plan almost succeeds – until Kit hears the voice of her father, Madmartigan, just as she did in the cave with the trolls. He reminds her why he fought and why she has to fight too. However, before she can get to Elora, she is frozen in stone by the Crone. Then, as Elora is about to get everything she’s ever wanted, she remembers who she really is and prepares to fight – and she’s not alone.
It turns out that Graydon, Boorman, Willow and Jade all take the same leap of faith to help their friends – and so the final battle begins! Elora confronts the Crone, while Boorman and Willow work to eliminate her minions. Jade and Kit are busy battling Airk, who is desperate to defend his new queen. Kit is helped by finally receiving Boorman’s powerful Kymerian cuirass, as she is the real person to wear it.

Just as it looks like Elora is about to fail against the Crone, Graydon steps in to defend her. He almost succeeds, but the Crone is just too powerful and, unfortunately, grinds him to dust, before also snapping Elora’s wand in half. Fueled by her anger, Elora gets a second chance against the Crone, and this time knocks her down. However, with her last breath, she infects Airk with her power, which backfires on her friends as fast as you can tell Nockmaar.
In the end, Kit overpowers him and is ready to kill him to save Elora, but with Willow’s magic she is able to reach him through their brotherly connection and drive the evil out of him. With Airk himself again, the group prepare to return home, knowing full well that the Wyrm are still waiting to find a way to take over.
And what a plan she has to do just that. In the final moments, we discover that Graydon is alive, but the Wyrm, who resembles Elora, offers to stand by her side as she accelerates her plans to take over the world.
How many seasons of willow Will there be?
Unfortunately, willow will be one and done. Deadline reported on March 15 that willow was canceled and will not return for Season 2. Although the show is not moving forward, the outlet noted that willow “remains an important intellectual property in the Lucasfilm library, so it may be revisited in the future.”
At the start of each of the eight episodes of willow, a book open to the “chapter” of the story. While it’s an incredibly beautiful and visual way to kick off the story, after the end credits of Season 1, viewers watch as the book closes and puts it back on the shelf. While doing so, it is revealed that the relocated book is titled “Volume 1”. Right next to it are volumes 2 and 3, hinting that the new story of willow was to take place over three seasons.
Before the cancellation of the show, Ron Howard, director of the original film and EP for the series, hoped the show would continue. “There has always been a hope and a plan for more seasons. There are definitely more stories to tell, but there is nothing concrete that I can comment on at the moment,” he said. he declares. THR. “From a creative point of view, everyone is under tension. Everyone loved working on willow. I felt like he had found his voice and his place, so we stay there.
Will Val Kilmer be in the willow Series?
Part of the fun of willow the series saw so many original stars return. Aside from Warwick as Willow, Joanne Whalley also returned as Queen Sorsha, as did Kevin Pollack as Rool, a brownie and former traveling companion of Willow and Madmartigan. But what about Madmartigan, played by the handsome Val Kilmerand Joanne’s real husband, in the 1988 film?

Well, the plan was for him to come back and make an appearance in the first season, just like he did in Top Gun: Maverick. While Madmartigan still played a big part in the Disney+ sequel series, Val was unable to appear as he wanted due to Covid protocols. Given his long battle with throat cancer, that meant it wasn’t safe for Kilmer to travel for filming. The series managed to circumvent this problem by bringing in his son, Jack. Twice during the show, Kit hears the voice of his father Madmartigan, who was actually Val’s son, playing the role his father would have.
“We actually recorded with Val and used her performance as a guideline,” willow showrunner Jonathan Kasdan said decision maker. “Then Jack was given Val’s performance to listen to and then copy what his dad had done in terms of you know, the performance elements of Val’s stuff. Then to see him on set – duplicating his dad like he did for the documentary they made – it was surreal and very emotional because you know, Val is such an integral part of the family. He’s such a critical part of Willow. He’s still with us as a supporter, advocate, and advisor on how to keep this character alive. And I think [he] I would very much like to return to the screen if the occasion allows it.
