Looking like a mini-me of her famous dad, Natalia delivered a sweet speech at the ceremony, calling Kobe the “Dad Girls MVP,” per People. “Dad, you are an icon, a legend, the storyteller and most importantly the best father daughter any young woman could ever dream of,” she said. “I am honored to be here representing you and our family, and we are extremely proud of you. We will love you forever and ever. Love, Natalia, Gianna, Bianka, Capri and Mom.

In a heartwarming display, Bianka and Capri put their hands inside their father’s footprints on the concrete of the iconic theater. “I encourage you to place your hands in his and take a moment to put yourself in his shoes,” Natalia added. “It will be a treasure for the city of Los Angeles and my dad’s fans around the world to hold and cherish.”

Kobe made the impressions in 2011, when he became the first athlete to have his hands and feet printed in cement at the legendary Chinese Theatre. To commemorate him and pay homage to his love of Los Angeles, the theater has decided to permanently place his hand and footprints on the Hollywood Boulevard venue forecourt.

The tribute comes after Vanessa returned to the Lakers arena last week for the first time since Kobe and Gianna’s memorial service in February 2020. She paid tribute to Kobe’s friend and teammate, Paul Gassol, whose jersey was removed. “I love you, sister,” Paul told Vanessa at the event. “I’m proud to be your brother. I am proud to be the uncle of your charming daughters.

The handprint ceremony also comes after Kobe’s widow won a $28.5 million settlement from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors over leaked helicopter crash photos . “Today marks the culmination of Ms. Bryant’s courageous battle to hold accountable those who engaged in this grotesque conduct,” Vanessa’s attorney said in a statement in March to People. “She fought for her husband, her daughter and everyone in the community whose deceased family was treated with the same disrespect. We hope that his victory at trial and this settlement will put an end to this practice.
