Edwin Diaz posts message thanking Mets fans for their support

As the baseball world continues to deal with Edwin Diaz’s premature season-ending injury, the electrifying closest has released a message thanking Mets fans for their support.

On Thursday, it was revealed that the Mets reliever tore his patellar tendon as he celebrated Puerto Rico’s 5-2 win over the Dominican Republic – which Diaz saved – to reach the quarter-finals of the Classic baseball world.

On his official Twitter account, @SugarDiaz39, Diaz made his first public statement since receiving the unfortunate news.

“To all my beloved fans, especially Mets fans,” he wrote, “I want to let you know that I am well and on the mend.

“I feel blessed and grateful for your support with messages and prayers, thank you so much! I can’t wait to see you back in New York and play those trumpets.

The injury should sideline Diaz for about eight months, likely keeping him out for the rest of the season.

Several teammates spoke enthusiastically about Diaz following his injury, including Met and Puerto Rico teammate Francisco Lindor, captain of the WBC ball club.

“I understand how much Mets fans are hurting,” he said. told ESPN’s Marly Rivera. “But while for so many people the regular season is what matters, playing in the WBC means just as much to all of us.

“We don’t want injuries to happen, but that’s part of the game. Of course, that’s sad for all Mets fans. And I want to thank them for being so concerned for us and for Edwin, and I really feel your pain too.

The Mets will have to proceed without Diaz — who is in the first of another five-year, $102 extension this season — but should be equipped to at least fill the massive void.
